NRA hails Republican attempt to overturn Obama-era ‘gun grab’

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is applauding efforts by Republican lawmakers to overturn a controversial Obama-era gun regulation.

The Social Security Administration has faced scrutiny over a plan that would make it difficult for certain disability beneficiaries to purchase guns, if they need the government’s help managing their money. The NRA lobbied hard against the rule.

“Congress’s decision to review the Obama administration’s back-door gun grab is a significant step forward in protecting a fundamental constitutional right for law-abiding gun owners,” Chris Cox, the NRA’s top lobbyist, said in a statement Wednesday. 

{mosads}“The NRA has been fighting this unconstitutional government overreach since its as first discussed and we look forward to swift congressional action,” he added.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) revealed in a Wall Street Journal op-ed this week several regulations Republicans intend to repeal through the Congressional Review Act, including this gun regulation.

The Congressional Review Act allows Republican lawmakers to roll back Obama-era regulations that were published within the last 60 legislative days.
